Robots rise to meet the challenge of caring for old people

Assistive robots have not quite reached the level of The Jetsons , the animated 1960s sitcom in which Rosie the robot maid zipped around a futuristic house doing all the chores people would rather avoid.

To work out how robots might be used in retirement homes, McGinn and his colleagues built Stevie, a white robot on a rolling base with short, moveable arms and a head that displays cartoon eyes and a mouth.

This Lockhart Greenhouse Wants to Grow Your Salad Using Robots – Texas Monthly

Larry Nixon, general manager of a greenhouse on the outskirts of Lockhart, showed me some of the most emerald-green basil I’d ever seen. “That’s a healthy plant,” he said, pointing one out. Its leaves curved like a sail catching a gust of wind.

Grover, as the robot is named, is a squat square of molded plastic with black wheels. Think of a Zamboni squashed to a height of a few inches. A twentysomething employee whose title is “robot safety officer” guided the machine with what looked like a Sony PlayStation controller.

Delivery robots get airbags to protect you in case of collision

Autonomous vehicle maker Nuro has added external airbags to its self-driving delivery robots to protect pedestrians — but there's reason to be skeptical about their effectiveness.

Drivers wanted: During the pandemic, more people started ordering their food , groceries , and other goods for delivery rather than venturing into stores and restaurants for them.
