The 10 worst dating trends of the decade, from 'orbiting' to 'breadcrumbing'

The last month of 2019, and thus of the decade, is barreling to a close, and thus it is time to reflect not only the year but the decade in dating.

Romance in the 2010s will go down in history for a myriad of reasons, not least of them the rise of dating apps. Match and eHarmony had already existed for awhile, but in 2012 Tinder came into the the world and ushered in nearly a full decade of "swiping" and all the consequences that came along with it.

Carrie Fisher Wrote Another Obit for Herself, Says Todd Fisher

A previous version of this post misstated that the most recent Star Wars is The Last Jedi, when in fact it is The Rise of Skywalker. Jezebel regrets the error, which was purely Freudian given that the author is afraid to see The Rise of Skywalker.

WATCH: Europe's exoplanet hunter reaches orbit around Earth | News24

Europe's CHEOPS planet-hunting space telescope left Earth on Wednesday and moved into orbit, a day after its lift-off was delayed by a technical rocket glitch during the final countdown.

The telescope will measure the density, composition and size of planets beyond our Solar System - known as exoplanets.

According to the European Space Agency (ESA), CHEOPS will observe bright stars that are already known to be orbited by planets.

In case you are keeping track:

SpaceX can adjust Starlink orbits |

SpaceX had asked for permission to create orbits in 72 rings around the planet at orbital heights of 550 kms, and this is three-times the previously allowed plan. Each ring will now contain 22 satellites instead of the previous 66 and thus permit SpaceX to populate each ring more speedily.

SpaceX will place a total of 1584 satellites into these orbital rings and already has 120 in orbit. Overall, SpaceX wants 12,000 satellites in orbit although the bulk of these extra satellites will operate at both higher and lower altitudes than the initial 1584.

In orbit and under the gun: 'Ad Astra' blends sights, sounds to create good cinema about outer

Outer space offers infinite ground for cinema to explore. It's so far beyond the grasp for us mere earthlings. We can't comprehend it entirely. In the past, the brightest among us have boarded shuttles to venture into the unknown. The rest of us, however, stayed put on the big blue planet, wondering what it would be like among the stars.

* * *

At its core, Ad Astra — starring Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones — is a story of fathers and sons, but punched up to a cosmic scale. It's essentially not too distant from Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 war classic Apocalypse Now . Its aesthetic may pull from other space films like Solaris, 2001: A Space Odyssey and last year's First Man , but at its heart, it's a human drama.

Ursids Meteor Shower 2019: Watch It Peak in Night Skies - The New York Times

All year long as Earth revolves around the sun, it passes through streams of cosmic debris. The resulting meteor showers can light up night skies from dusk to dawn, and if you're lucky you might be able to catch a glimpse.

The next shower you might be able to see is the Ursids. Active from Dec. 17 to Dec. 26, the show peaks around Sunday night into Monday morning, or Dec. 22-23.

The Ursids tend to illuminate the night sky around the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. They only shoot around 10 to 20 meteors per hour. They appear to radiate from Ursa Minor, and come from Comet 8P/Tuttle.

Cowboys' change needs to go outside Jerry Jones' orbit

But what does Jerry do? He has shown a propensity to turn inward in nearly all decisions. The Cowboys may be worth an estimated $5.5 billion, but Jones runs them mostly like a family (and friends) business.

He's not just the owner, but he's also the general manager, which eliminates one more voice out of the decision-making process. His top three front-office members are his children, sons Stephen and Jerry Jr. and daughter Charlotte Jones Anderson.
