NASA Asteroid Tracker: 85-Foot Earth-Crossing NEO Approaching Tomorrow

NASA is currently monitoring an asteroid that's expected to approach Earth tomorrow morning. According to the agency, the asteroid's natural orbit intersects Earth's trajectory.

The approaching asteroid has been identified by NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) as 2020 GQ1 . Based on the data collected by the agency, 2020 GQ1 has an estimated diameter of about 85 feet. This asteroid is currently traveling across space towards the planet at an average speed of almost 38,000 miles per hour.

Huge asteroid 1998 OR2 will zip harmlessly by Earth April 29. See the latest telescope photos.

The huge "potentially hazardous" asteroid 1998 OR2 is just a few weeks away from its close encounter with Earth, and you can watch the giant space rock's approach online or with a small telescope.

While asteroid 1998 OR2 is large enough to wreak havoc on Earth if it were to strike our planet, it won't come anywhere near a collision when it flies by on April 29.

"On April 29, asteroid 1998 OR2 will safely pass by 3.9 million miles/6.2 million kilometers," scientists with NASA's Asteroid Watch program said in a Twitter update as they debunked a Daily Express report warning of the flyby. "There is no warning about this asteroid," they added in another Twitter post .

An asteroid strike may have popped the surface of Mars | New Scientist

An unusual deposit spotted in one of Mars's biggest volcanic regions might be the result of an eruption that popped the surface of the planet. If this is the case, it would mean Mars is still volcanically active today.

"Most of Mars's activity was very early on – the first billion years or so of planetary evolution was an intense period of tectonic and volcanic activity," says Jeffrey Andrews-Hanna at the University of Arizona. "The last 3 billion years on Mars has really been a …

Trump signs executive order to support moon mining, tap asteroid resources | Space

The water ice and other lunar resources that will help the United States establish a long-term human presence on the moon are there for the taking, the White House believes.

This view has long held sway in U.S. government circles. For example, the United States, like the other major spacefaring nations, has not signed the 1979 Moon Treaty, which stipulates that non-scientific use of space resources be governed by an international regulatory framework. And in 2015, Congress passed a law explicitly allowing American companies and citizens to use moon and asteroid resources .

Asteroid news: A potentially hazardous 4KM rock will fly by Earth this month | Science | News |

Many asteroids race around the Sun on trajectories that can bring them close to our planet at different points in time.

Occasionally, asteroid and comets will come close enough to Earth for NASA's automated systems to track their orbits.

According to NASA, an NEO is "an asteroid or comet with a perihelion distance less than or equal to 1.3au".

One au, or astronomical unit, is the distance between Earth and the Sun - about 93 million miles (149.6 million km).

Asteroid warning in the Bible: Scripture expert addresses Apophis claim | Weird | News |

The Book of Revelation contains the final chapters of the Bible and describes the end of the world as envisioned by John the Apostle.

In an article for Charisma News, Mr Horn said: "Revelation 8 and the first four trumpet judgments appear to describe the different stages of a singular event – a large asteroid impact on planet Earth, which I predict is coming in 2029 in the form of the Asteroid Apophis.”

However, according to Professor Tom Meyer, a college professor who has memorised more than 20 books from the Bible, it is unlikely the Bible has warned of a literal asteroid hitting Earth in Revelation 8.
