UK 'urgently needs cybersecurity centre to protect autonomous cars from hackers'
The UK "urgently needs" a transport cybersecurity programme if it hopes to safely introduce connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to the roads, according to the leaders of a pioneering project.
The ResiCAV project investigated how CAVs and their associated infrastructure can develop “real-time responsiveness” to cybersecurity threats. Over three months, a consortium led by Zenzic and Innovate UK explored the feasibility of creating a UK cybersecurity ‘Centre of Excellence’ to detect, understand and respond to emerging cybersecurity threats in real-time across the transport network.

The Confessions of Marcus Hutchins, the Hacker Who Saved the Internet | WIRED
At around 7 am on a quiet Wednesday in August 2017, Marcus Hutchins walked out the front door of the Airbnb mansion in Las Vegas where he had been partying for the past week and a half. A gangly, 6'4", 23-year-old hacker with an explosion of blond-brown curls, Hutchins had emerged to retrieve his order of a Big Mac and fries from an Uber Eats deliveryman.

Ohio reconsiders policy of kicking workers off unemployment, after hackers release code to
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services set up webpage for employers to announce employees who refuse to return to work, so the state can reevaluate whether they should continue to get unemployment.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - State officials are re-evaluating whether to kick workers off unemployment benefits if they don't return during the pandemic, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services Director Kimberly Hall said.
The anonymous hacker released code to allow anyone to submit fake information to the state's site, which was then simplified by a software engineer to make it easier for people to use. Vice reports that the hacker said his goal was to overwhelm the system with incorrect information, which would make it harder for the state to weed out the legitimate submissions and deny people benefits.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOCO/CNN) - Given the coronavirus outbreak, some schools are holding virtual graduation ceremonies. But for one Oklahoma college, that rite of passage went terribly wrong when hackers interrupted with racial slurs and anti-Semitic imagery.
"Then, all we saw was the N-word and a swastika," he said. "My grandma and my mom and everything saw it, and they were really heartbroken by it."
Williams says he started crying after he realized what had happened. He also couldn't hold back his emotions when he posted a message on social media to his friends and fellow graduates.
