A strange explosion in space is starting to reveal its secrets. In 2018, astronomers spotted an extraordinarily fast and bright explosion unlike anything we had ever seen before, and now they are starting to narrow down what could have caused it.
The explosion was given the official designation AT2018cow – a listing based on the alphabetical order of objects reported in the Astronomer's Telegram – and nicknamed "the Cow". It took just a few days to reach its peak brightness after it began to explode, …

Physics - A Microscopic Account of Black Hole Entropy
Around the same time, physicist Juan Maldacena offered a new approach for tackling quantum gravity problems through the so-called anti–de Sitter/conformal field theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence [ 8 ]. Maldacena’s conjecture states that for a certain quantum system with gravity there is an equivalent system without gravity. This equivalence allows a universe with gravity to be studied by modeling it with a simpler, gravity-free universe described by a quantum field theory.
NICK STROBEL: Possible black hole discovered nearer to Earth | Entertainment | bakersfield.com
An interesting bit of recent astronomy news is the possible discovery of a black hole in a nearby star system, HR 6819. If confirmed, this black hole would be the closest black hole to us at "just" 1,000 light-years away. The announcement's language is tentative because the mass we derive for the unseen object depends on us knowing the mass of its companion visible star.
Stellar-mass black holes are usually found by looking for bright, luminous X-ray sources. Objects that produce a lot of X-rays are much rarer in a galaxy than those that produce a lot of ordinary visible light, such as stars. Supercompact and massive objects like neutron stars and black holes produce a lot of X-rays from the gas swirling onto them by a nearby companion star.
Why Clouds Form Near Black Holes | NASA
Not to change the topic here:
Black holes and neutron stars merge unseen in dense star clusters
If two black holes merge, the event may be invisible but is nonetheless detectable from ripples in space-time in the form of so-called gravitational waves . Certain detectors, like the "Laser Interferometer Gravitational Waves Observatory" (LIGO) in the USA, are able to detect these waves. The first successful direct observation was made in 2015. The signal was generated by the fusion of two black holes.
In his study, the Heidelberg researcher analysed the fusion of pairs of black holes and neutron stars. He used detailed computer simulations to study the interactions between a system made up of a star and a compact object, such as a black hole, and a third massive roaming object that is required for a fusion. The results indicate that such three-body interactions can in fact contribute to black hole-neutron star mergers in dense stellar regions like globular star clusters.

A team of US and South African researchers has published highly detailed images of the largest X-shaped "radio galaxy" ever discovered – PKS 2014-55.
The spectacular new images were taken using the 64-antenna MeerKAT telescope in South Africa, by an international research team led by Bill Cotton of the US National Radio Astronomy Observatory.
Inspired by a Black Hole, this speaker’s design makes you ‘gravitate’ towards
It stands to reason that if you pull inspiration from literally one of the most mysteriously awe-striking and beautiful phenomena in our universe, you’ll have a product that will echo those very same characteristics. Behold the Black Hole Speaker… designed to attract your attention the way a black hole attracts all mass.
The Black Hole speaker comes with a speckled design on its black base that resembles stars being pulled into the void, along with a concentric ripple texture that is symbolic of a black hole’s ability to create ripples in time and space. It’s all incredibly symbolic!
