An out-of-control Russian rocket has fallen back to Earth after being trapped in orbit for nine days.
The Angara A-5 heavy carrier rocket launched on December 27 and was set to reach an orbit 22,000 miles above the Earth's surface, but a failure in firing of the upper stage left it in low Earth orbit.
THIS DAY IN HISTORY: The dwarf planet Ceres discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801 - Space
Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt, with a radius of 296 miles (476 kilometers). NASA's Dawn spacecraft entered orbit around Ceres in March 2015, after first having orbited the asteroid Vesta from 2011-2012.
In October 2017 the mission at Ceres was extended, in part, so Dawn will be able to observe any changes that occur in early 2018 as Ceres reaches perihelion (the part of its orbit around the asteroid belt that is closest to the Sun.)
The Expanse Reveals Jules Pierre Mao's Fate After The Books Ignored It
A bonus scene at the end of The Expanse season 6 episode 4 ("Redoubt") confirms Jules Pierre-Mao's fate despite the revelation's absence from the books.

View from the Left: Looking back at what was good in 2021
Erich Maria Remarque, who wrote All Quiet on the Western Front, was correct in saying "human beings are a worse poison than schnapps and tobacco," adding "the more primitive we are, the more we believe ourselves to be.
Quite a few asteroids came within 0.07 lunar distances of the Earth last year. In April, an SUV-sized asteroid, traveling at 18,700 mph came within 12,000 miles of our atmosphere.

Lessons from the dinosaur's tale
This latest discovery is further confirmation of the long-held theory that the dinosaurs didn't exactly die out; they just evolved into birds.
It's been quite a year for science, what with the launch of the James Webb telescope, the Mars landings and a probe practically 'touching' the sun.
Space business: The final (profitable) frontier
Sierra Space, a subsidiary of private aerospace contractor Sierra Nevada Corp., plans to have the 30-foot (nine-meter) "Dream Chaser" flying missions this year, making the reusable spacecraft key to its off-Earth ambitions.
"Before governments were the only ones that could do it. Now, it's getting down to regular human beings who can get a ride to space," Neeraj Gupta, the company's general manager of space destinations, told AFP.
List of space missions which will be launched in 2022
New Delhi : Space is all about explorations and the more we explore the more wonderful facts come to light. For the same reason, a number of space missions have been scheduled for 2022.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will be sending an uncrewed test flight around the moon. The test flight will be the first launch in the Artemis program, the mission to return humans to the moon. It has been slated to launch on March 12, 2022.
Look up as the Quadrantid meteor shower puts on a show in the new year | WGOW-AM
The new year kicks off with the Quadrantid meteor shower, which is expected to peak in the overnight hours from Sunday to Monday.
The Quadrantids are typically among the strongest meteor showers of the year. Fortunately, a waxing crescent moon phase will practically render the moon invisible overnight, allowing for peak visibility of the meteors.
