Solar System Gets its Ducks in a Row - Sky & Telescope - Sky & Telescope

We’ll have not one but many opportunities to enjoy a rare lineup of the bright planets over the next few weeks. Amazingly, they’ll be aligned in order of their distance from the Sun.

Like a peacock spreading its feathers, the solar system's five brightest planets will fan out in a beautiful display at dawn through early July.

Ethics in Solar System exploration | Nature Astronomy

As the population of Earth's orbital environment and human exploration of space intensifies, it is critical to have a strong ethical framework in place so that mistakes of the past are learned from and not repeated.

As we move into an era of private industry-led space exploration, it is increasingly important for all of humanity to engage with the topic of space ethics.

Science Corner – Ocean worlds in the solar system - Positively Naperville

Galileo discovered four moons orbiting Jupiter, which you can see for yourself with a good pair of binoculars. Europa is one of them, and underneath a thick icy crust covered in cracks and ridges, it is thought to have a deep saltwater ocean.

One of Saturn's moons, Enceladus, was visited by NASA's Cassini missions. It photographed fountains or plumes of saltwater coming through fissures in its surface, probably warmed by thermal vents on its sea floor.

Will Earth Ever Get Pulled Into a Black Hole?

Black holes are regions of space where gravity is so extreme that nothing, not even light—the fastest thing in the universe—can escape.

But is there a possibility that planet Earth will ever be pulled into a black hole? And if so, what would happen in this scenario?

Why getting hit by space dust is an unavoidable aspect of space travel - The Verge

On June 8th, NASA revealed that its new powerful space observatory, the James Webb Space Telescope, is now sporting a small dimple in one of its primary mirrors after getting pelted by a larger-than-expected micrometeoroid out in deep space.

Despite what its name implies, space isn't exactly empty. Within our Solar System, tiny bits of space dust are zooming through the regions between our planets at whopping speeds that can reach up to tens of thousands of miles per hour.

Samples of Asteroid Ryugu Contain More Than 20 Amino Acids - Universe Today

In 2014, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) dispatched its Hayabusa2 spacecraft to rendezvous with 162173 Ryugu , a Near-Earth Asteroid (NEA) that periodically passes close to Earth.

Earlier this year, the first results of the analysis showed that Ryugu is (as expected) rich in carbon, organic molecules, and volatiles (like water) and hinted at the possibility that it was once a comet .
