In the electric sector, the increasingly-distributed nature of grid resources means more potential targets, say experts. But Dragos said utilities are largely well-defended and positioned to respond, among industries targeted by hackers.

News Corp says state hackers were on its network for two years

Mass media and publishing giant News Corporation (News Corp) says that attackers behind a breach disclosed in 2022 first gained access to its systems two years before, in February 2020.

The incident affected multiple news arms of the publishing conglomerate, including The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and its U.K. news operations.

Ukraine says Russian hackers backdoored govt websites in 2021

The Computer Emergency Response Team of Ukraine (CERT-UA) says Russian state hackers have breached multiple government websites this week using backdoors planted as far back as December 2021. 

CERT-UA spotted the attacks after discovering a web shell on Thursday morning on one of the hacked websites that the threat actors (tracked as UAC-0056, Ember Bear, or Lorec53) used to install additional malware.

OODA Loop - North Korean hackers move $3.2M from Gate.io 2018 hack

North Korean hackers stole $234.33 million from Gate.io in 2018. Earlier this week, the hackers moved 1944.72 Ethereum (ETH) of the stolen funds, worth around $3.2 million at current prices, on-chain sleuth ZachXBT pointed out. The funds had been lying dormant for over 4.5 years, he noted.
