The first solid materials in the solar system could have formed in a matter of days, rather than the few thousand or tens of thousands of years estimated previously. This is the conclusion of a team of researchers who used secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) to measure the isotopic composition of minerals in chondritic meteorites – primitive objects left over from the era when solid material was just beginning to condense around the Sun.

Five things we've learned since Voyager 2 left the solar system - MIT Technology Review
One year ago, NASA's Voyager 2 probe became just the second human-made object in history to exit the solar system and officially enter interstellar space . Voyager 2 was launched on August 20, 1977—16 days before its twin, Voyager 1, which exited the solar system's northern hemisphere in 2012 . Voyager 2 was sent on a longer journey that allowed it to make encounters with Uranus and Neptune, and to this day it's the only spacecraft to have visited these planets up close.

There is a vibrant and effective planetary science community in Canada. We do research in the areas of meteoritics, asteroid and trans-Neptunian object orbits and compositions, and space weather, and are involved in space probe missions to study planetary surfaces and interiors. For Canadian planetary scientists to deliver the highest scientific impact possible, we have several recommendations.

NASA Needs to Update Its Rules to Keep Our Solar System Clean
NASA published a response to the Planetary Protection Recommendations, and aims to rethink its approach to ensure cleaner and safer missions.
NASA has been following the same guidelines to prevent contamination spreading from space onto our planet for the past 50 years.

Planetary protection is meant to prevent or minimize biological contamination in our solar system. The aim is to limit the number of microbes we send into space and to other planets, so as to ensure we're able to study these areas in their natural habitats.
New-Found Comet Gateway Funnels Icy Bodies Into Inner Solar System
Bright cometary outbursts, such as those seen in Halley's and Hale-Bopp comets have beguiled Earth-based observers for tens of thousands of years. But planetary scientists have long wondered how so-called Jupiter Family Comets (JFCs), such as Tempel 1, Wild 2, and 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, continually replenish their populations and end up on short-term orbits in the inner solar system.
In a paper just published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters , a team of researchers report the discovery of an orbital region just beyond Jupiter that acts as a "comet gateway," the University of Arizona at Tucson notes. The idea is that this donut-shaped gateway gravitationally funnels icy bodies called centaurs into our inner solar system.
Nasa renames solar system object previously known as 'Ultima Thule' to 'Arrokoth' after Nazi
The object was previously known as Ultima Thule. That name was chosen to mean something like "farthest place", but immediately attracted controversy because "Thule" is a word that has been associated with Nazis in the past.

The new name frees the object of its associations with Nazi occultists, which have brought criticism ever since it was announced.
Nasa chose the name in keeping with a Latin metaphor, used to describe places that were so far away they were entirely unknown. It has appeared on maps for centuries.
Mercury creates tiny solar eclipse in rare celestial act | News | DW | 11.11.2019
Astronomy aficionados are peering into the sky to watch a rare celestial event that sees the smallest planet of the solar system glide between the sun and the Earth to create a tiny solar eclipse.
