This extremely powerful eruption occurred in the Ophiuchus galaxy cluster, which is located about 390 million light-years from Earth. Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the Universe held together by gravity, containing thousands of individual galaxies, dark matter, and hot gas. In this image, the diffuse hot gas pervading the cluster is revealed through X-ray observations from XMM-Newton (shown in pink), radio data from the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (shown in blue), and infrared data from the 2MASS survey (shown in white). The inset in the lower right shows a zoomed-in X-ray view based on Chandra data (also shown in pink), while bright dots sprinkled across the image reflect the distribution of foreground stars and galaxies.

'Everything Is a Black Hole': Mounting Dread in the Age of Coronavirus - The New York Times
In a Harlem cafe late last week, a woman reading her cellphone sneezed without covering her mouth. On an ordinary day, the fleeting moment would pass barely noticed. But these are not ordinary days.

This creeping uncertainty can be fueled by the very steps taken to reassure. President Trump's declaration of a national emergency; Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's dispatch of the National Guard to a "containment zone" in the Westchester city of New Rochelle. Do these steps calm us, or unnerve us?
Black hole shock: Ancient black hole is pointing a particle beam STRAIGHT at Earth | Science |
A new supermassive black hole, given the non-catchy name of PSO J030947.49+271757.31, is the most distant blazar ever observed, and was only discovered as our planet is right in its crosshairs. A blazar galaxy is an extremely bright galaxy with a supermassive black hole at its core that faces towards Earth and blasts light and matter towards us.
Scientists were able to determine that it is the oldest to be discovered based on wavelength signatures of the black hole’s redshift – the longer a wavelength, the more red it appears which can provide a clue to the age.
Astronomers: Here's This Incredibly Ancient Supermassive Black Hole We Found
The team managed to spot the black hole because it gave off a blazar — a massive explosion focused into a beam-like jet of ions. The explosion occurred nearly 13 billion years ago, but the light it gave off is still reaching Earth today , according to research published in the journal Astronomy Astrophysics last week.
Because the jet streams given off by a blazar are so narrow, it's far more likely that there were more ancient black holes than the one that was spotted that simply aren't facing Earth.
Quite a lot has been going on:
Researchers find gravitational wave candidates from binary black hole mergers in public
The international research team analyzed the publicly available gravitational-wave data taken by the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors in their first (O1: September 2015—January 2016) and second (O2: November 2016—August 2017) observation runs. These have been previously analyzed by the LIGO Scientific and the Virgo collaboration. Ten binary black hole mergers and one binary neutron star merger have been found.
The work led by Nitz confirms 14 of these events and finds one more possible binary black hole merger missed by previous analyses. If real, GW151205 came from a rather distant merger of two massive black holes of about 70 and 40 times the mass of our Sun, respectively.

'Stuck in black hole': Ellen Adarna goes through mental training in Bali | ABS-CBN
Thus, it came as a surprise to some of her followers when she candidly talked about the retreat she signed up for in Bali, Indonesia recently after she realized she’s “getting weaker mentally and emotionally.”
In a series of Instagram Stories, Adarna revealed that she did a 14-day mental training in Bali because she felt “stuck in this black hole for almost 3 years.”
“My antidepressants didn’t do me any good, it made me immobile and numb. I was getting weaker mentally and emotionally—something had to be done,” she said.
Premier League clubs staring at £1bn black hole if rest of season is forced off by coronavirus –
PREMIER LEAGUE clubs are staring at a potential £1billion black hole if League chiefs are forced to annul the season.
The astonishing financial cost explains why the majority of clubs and the Premier League still want to play out the season to a conclusion if possible.
But the admission by Brighton chief executive Paul Barber that such a plan might prove to be unrealistic, if the extent of the coronavirus continues to spread for the coming months, heightens the genuine crisis facing Prem clubs.
