Researchers report in the journal Science that they appear to have some clues about the origin of Earth's plutonium - which has been long debated. What to know about Monday's unusual clouds in the North Bay
Thomas Peters captured a photo of the clouds from his home in the Fountaingrove neighborhood of Santa Rosa, where he and his wife moved in November. His wife returned from a walk at about 6:30 or 7 p.m. and asked him to come outside.
"It was almost an artist's rendering of an evening sky with an extraterrestrial vehicle hovering," he said. "I thought it was beautiful."
The clouds do look like flying saucers, but they're called altocumulus standing lenticular clouds, according to Cindy Palmer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The new vehicle is being built for NASA's Artemis program, which aims to land the first woman and person of color on the moon
Lockheed Martin and General Motors are partnering to create a lunar terrain vehicle that, if selected by NASA, could be used in its Artemis program that will return humans to the moon.
Lockheed Martin, with its space division headquarters in Denver, said it will lead the team with expertise in deep-space crafts while GM will bring its knowledge of propulsion systems and battery-electric technologies. It's the first time the two have partnered in space exploration, and officials from both companies on Wednesday said the work would advance extraterrestrial transportation technologies and unlock lunar research opportunities.
