The image acquired by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) shows the Zhurong robot a short distance in front of its landing platform.
The HiRise camera on MRO also detected the parachute and components of the capsule (backshell and heatshield) that brought Zhurong through the atmosphere.
The rover landed on 14 May in a region of the planet called Utopia Planitia. This is a vast terrain in Mars' northern hemisphere.
NASA Mars orbiter grabs dramatic first view of China's elusive rover - CNET
China's Tianwen-1 lander and Zhurong rover (lower dot) are visible in this NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter image from June 6.
The rover is in a plains region of Mars. "This image shows the surrounding terrain to be very typical of southern Utopia Planitia, with a smooth and mostly boulder-free region," the HiRise team said. "The bright curving features are aeolian (windblown) landforms."
The lack of images can be frustrating for space fans, so NASA's view of Zhurong's adventures on the red planet is a welcome addition to the sparse Tianwen-1 photo collection.

SpaceX Mars City: Bezos and Branson reveal the flaw in Elon Musk's vision of space
Their end goal is to sell rides on their rockets and encourage space tourism. Bezos has a vision of establishing destinations in Earth's orbit, gradually expanding to full-blown cities.
It's possible that Musk eventually reaches his goal and builds a city on Mars. It may also be true that "jobs won't be in short supply" in the city, as Musk said in 2016 . But in the near-term space economy, Bezos and Branson's vision is looking lucrative.
"Commercial space tourism is one of the few sources of near-term demand about which there is arguably reason to be optimistic," Matt Weinzierl , a professor at Harvard Business School who has written about the economics of space, tells Inverse .

Xplora was founded with the mission to give children a safe onboarding to the digital world and a better balance between screen time and physical activity. The renewed Mars interest drove Xplora to develop a new challenge.
"Studies show children's screen time has more than doubled during the pandemic. Children using our platform are more than twice as physically active compared to those that do not, so we wanted to do something to encourage more activity," said Sten Kirkbak, CEO of Xplora. "Children with Xplora smartwatches walk enough steps to go around the world every day.

NASA's Mars helicopter Ingenuity aces post-glitch seventh flight - CNET
While the tech glitch on the earlier flight was concerning, the Perseverance rover was able to confirm that Ingenuity landed itself in a safe spot. The most recent flight lasted 62.8 seconds and took the rotorcraft to a new location 350 feet (106 meters) away.
The seventh flight marked the second time the helicopter set itself down on a landing site it hadn't previously surveyed from the air. The Ingenuity team used data from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter "that suggests this new base of operations is relatively flat and has few surface obstructions."
