Vaporized asteroids suggest planets and stars form together | Space

We still have a lot to learn about our solar system's childhood. Since we can't go back to the beginning, astronomers rely on other stars for insight into the early years of how stars and their planets are made.

"We have a pretty good idea of how planets form, but one outstanding question we've had is when they form: does planet formation start early, when the parent star is still growing, or millions of years later?" Amy Bonsor, an astronomer at Cambridge University in the U.K.

Missing planets twice Earth's size may point to migrating worlds | Space

Supercomputer simulations have provided an explanation as to why so many exoplanets are either super-Earths or mini-Neptunes, with few planets in between.

Exoplanets can come in a variety of sizes and masses. If you were to plot on a graph how many planets of each size astronomers have discovered, you'd find two peaks: one at 1.4 times Earth 's radius, and another at 2.4 times Earth's radius.

Colliding magnetic fields reveal unknown planets | Mirage News

Northern lights, stellar winds and exoplanets. This is what astronomer’s PhD research revolved around. PhD candidate astronomer Rob Kavanagh developed mathematical models to better understand the interactions between exoplanets and stellar winds and to define features of exoplanets.

Exoplanets are planets that orbit around other stars than the sun. They are sometimes difficult to detect, but now it appears that interactions between exoplanets and stellar winds produce signals that radio telescopes can detect.

Interior Heating Of Rocky Exoplanets From Stellar Flares With Application To TRAPPIST-1 - ...

Many stars of different spectral types with planets in the habitable zone are known to emit flares.

Here, we show that the magnetic flux carried by flare-associated CMEs results in planetary interior heating by Ohmic dissipation and leads to a variety of interior–exterior interactions.

NASA and ULA Successfully Test a Giant Inflatable Heat Shield That Could Land Heavier Payloads on ...

A new type of heat shield was successfully tested last week, with the hopes this type of inflatable decelerator could be used in the future to land humans and large payloads on Mars or for atmospheric entry on other planets on moons.

The Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID) was launched aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket on November 10 from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

We might be alone in the universe and a new NASA theory explains why

Alien civilizations may have slowly wiped themselves out due to climate catastrophes on their home planets.

In a new paper published in the pre-print server ArXiv, a group of NASA scientists analyzed the 'Great Filter' theory, which posits that ancient alien civilizations may have wiped themselves out before they had any chance of making contact with humanity.

James Webb Space Telescope to help find potentially habitable planets, understand Earth's climate ...

TRAPPIST-1e is one of seven worlds in the Trappist-1 system orbiting a relatively cool M-dwarf star located 39 light-years from Earth.

That's why the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) next year will begin intensively studying the Trappist-1 system and the TRAPPIST-1e planet, which is considered one of the most “potentially habitable”  exoplanets ever discovered.
