If you're up early anytime this week, look east before dawn and you'll see the planet Venus in its super-bright "Morning Star" apparition.
Seven days after its "Black Moon" New Moon phase our only natural satellite will reach First Quarter Moon. At 17:58 UT its near-side—which is always visible since the Moon's orbit is tidally-locked to Earth—will be 50% illuminated. So will its far-side, which we can't see.

Magic in Light and Dark: Lovecraft Country, “Whitey’s on the Moon” | Tor.com
Lovecraft Country continues with episode 2, wherein people are rescued, people die, and a dead woman gets some long overdue retribution.
* * *
The last time we saw George, Leti, and Tic, they were covered in blood after a night spent fighting shoggoths and racist cops. So it's a bit of a shock when the second episode opens with George and Leti dancing around in their massive guest rooms and acting like everything is peachy keen, jelly bean. Leti is gifted with a wardrobe perfectly tailored to her size and tastes while George gets a vast library of all his favorite books. Only Atticus feels the weight of the previous night.
Cold as (lunar) ice: Protecting the moon's polar regions from contamination | Space
The permanently shadowed floors of polar craters are generally between 3.4 to 3.9 billion years old, based on cratering statistics.
NASA's Artemis program calls for landing the first woman and next man on the moon by 2024. The agency also aims to establish sustainable exploration there by the end of the decade, a project that may include a base camp near Shackleton Crater at the moon's south pole.
Such ambitious exploration efforts would likely rely, at least in part, on water ice mined from polar craters . And that raises a question: Can humanity utilize this precious resource without compromising the poles' scientific potential?

August 2020: The Next Full Moon is the Sturgeon Moon – NASA Solar System Exploration
The Next Full Moon is the Sturgeon Moon, the Green Corn Moon, the Raksha Bandhan Moon, Nikini Poya, and the end of the Esala Perahera festival.
The next full Moon will be midday on Monday, August 3, 2020, appearing "opposite" the Sun (in Earth-based longitude) at 11:59 AM EDT. The Moon will appear full for about three days centered around this time, from late Saturday night through early Wednesday morning.
The Maine Farmer's Almanac first published "Indian" names for the full Moons in the 1930's, and over time these names have become widely known and used. According to this almanac, as the full Moon in August and the second full Moon of Summer, the Algonquin tribes in what is now the northeastern USA called this the Sturgeon Moon after the large fish that were more easily caught this time of year in the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water.
