Security firm Bitdefender said it discovered what appears to be a new hacker group that is currently targeting companies across the globe with malware hidden inside malicious 3Ds Max plugins.

3Ds Max is a 3D computer graphics application developed by software giant Autodesk and is an app commonly installed and used by engineering, architecture, gaming, or software companies.

Utilities face growing ransomware threat as hackers improve strategy, execution | Utility Dive

The energy industry faces an increasing threat from financially-motivated hackers. Experts say more companies are paying, and ransoms are rising.

The utility sector, including electric, gas and water companies, has a growing ransomware problem, say security experts.

"It's a volume business. A volume, low-margin business," said Miles Keogh, executive director of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. He advised state public utility commissions on cybersecurity issues until 2017.

Hackers make threats, post racial slurs during virtual Auburn school meeting - syracuse.com

Auburn, N.Y. — Hackers posted racial slurs and made threats last week during a virtual meeting about reopening Auburn schools, district officials said.

The meeting for parents about reopening Auburn Junior High School took place Aug. 20 on Zoom. Hackers crashed the meeting, Auburn Enlarged City School District officials said — posting inappropriate slogans and images, racial slurs and threats to the watching families and school officials.

"The school district does not condone this type of behavior and will be pursuing criminal charges," officials said. "Again, we apologize to anyone who witnessed this inappropriate behavior."

Unsophisticated Iranian hackers armed with ransomware are targeting companies worldwide | Fox News

Unsophisticated Iranian hackers are attacking company networks with ransomware, a cybersecurity firm said.

The attackers have been using Dharma ransomware “and a mix of publicly available tools” to target companies in Russia, Japan, China and India, cybersecurity firm Group-IB said earlier this week .

Dharma ransomware, which is gaining popularity with cybercriminals, is typically installed by hacking into computers over Remote Desktop Protocol Services (RDP) – a Microsoft-developed technology for connecting to other computers over a network.
