Lydall testing air filter system on Mars with NASA rover, CEO says

A filtration materials company that watched its stock rise amid the need for protective gear to guard against Covid-19 is testing ways to make breathing possible on another planet.

Lydall , which the federal government contracted to help replenish the U.S. stockpile of personal protection equipment , supplied the National Aeronautics and Space Administration with HEPA-grade filtration media that's being used to produce oxygen on Mars, according to CEO Sara Greenstein.

NASA is allotting additional time to test the operational capabilities of its groundbreaking Ingenuity helicopter, which completed its first powered flight on Mars less than two weeks ago. Since then, the device has completed a total of four flights . If all goes well following its fifth voyage, NASA says it plans to jump start the "next phase" of tests.

Study: Icy Clouds May Have Permitted Flowing Water on Mars


A new study suggests icy clouds above early Mars could have provided the warmth to permit flowing water on the Red Planet.

American researchers used a computer model to predict that icy clouds in the Mars atmosphere may have created a greenhouse effect. Earth also experiences a greenhouse effect, which happens when gases in the atmosphere trap in heat from the sun.

Today, Mars enjoys a cold, desert climate. Any existing water is believed to be in the form of ice because of the planet's extremely cold temperatures. There is, however, a rich amount of evidence suggesting that rivers, lakes and even oceans once existed on Mars.

Aggie's Enthusiasm For Space Helps Land Perseverance Rover On Mars - Texas A&M Today

Samalis Santini De León, a doctoral student in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, joined space exploration history when NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover successfully landed on the cold planet on Feb. 18, 2021.

Santini De León is a NASA Science and Technology Research Fellow and has spent the last year running countless week-long entry, descent and landing (EDL) simulations to identify patterns and risks and assess the system’s performance in preparation for landing day.

So far, civilization's essential narrative has been exploration, discovery and migration from parts of our planet that are short on resources and overpopulated into new territory.

This is undoubtedly why our ancestors weren't content to stay in Africa or, eventually, in Europe. In the 15th century we discovered the mother lode, a New World of seemingly unbounded resources populated only by a few souls who could be easily brushed aside. No wonder Europeans were eager to leave a continent that was crowded, oppressive and pestilential for a new continent with unlimited horizons.
