Krypton Isotopes Provide New Clues to Planets’ Pasts - Eos

Now, improved experimental techniques have made it easier to untangle underutilized krypton isotopes in gas trapped in rocks, which may provide new hints about the pasts of Earth and other planets.

Billions of years ago, a swirling cloud of dust and gas started forming our solar system. Out of this cosmic hurricane, the Sun and the planets were born.

Watch: New Jumping Device Could Help Humans Spring Across Other Planets

Researchers say they have created a device that can out-jump any animal or mechanical machine either on Earth or in space.

The jumper is capable of achieving the tallest height in earth gravity — roughly 100 feet — of any jumper to date, engineered or biological.

NASA discovers thousands of exoplanets | khou.com

HOUSTON — In the last 30 years, astronomers have discovered more than 5,000 exoplanets, but they say that's just a tiny fraction of the likely hundreds of billions of exoplanets in the Milky Way galaxy.

"Some of the oldest stars have planets," NASA Astrophysicist Padi Boyd said. "I manage a group of scientists that study exoplanets and stellar astrophysics."

Viral video: Astronomer puts the solar system and planets in a new light

Outer space, endless spaces: just imagining the solar system and its planets is a difficult task. But now an astronomer and a hobbyist animator presents a great video that opens a new perspective here.

The picture of the solar system was likely formed by the classical representation of planets of similar size, clearly visible from all sides and moving in circular orbits around the sun at manageable distances.

Venus and Jupiter shine together over Rome (photo) | Space

A new image captures two planets with ancient significance meeting up over the famous old city of Rome on Sunday (May 1).

He spotted the duo in the morning sky during a conjunction, or close approach in the sky. Conjunctions occur from time to time, because the eight official planets all orbit in the ecliptic , the plane of our solar system.

Gravity Telescope to Use Sun as Giant Lens to Capture Distance Planets | PetaPixel

A pair of Stanford University astrophysicists have proposed a new way to use gravitational lensing that would be up to 1,000 times more precise than current methods. The hope is to use the concept to take better photos of distant planets.

In short, gravitational lensing is an effect that was theorized by Einstien, which sees gravity distort space and create an “optic” of sorts that channels light in a way that scientists describe as akin to a giant magnifying glass.

Discovery Alert: 30 'Exocomets' Orbit a Familiar Star – Exoplanet Exploration: Planets Beyond our ...

The discovery: An international science team has detected 30 comets in orbit around the star Beta Pictoris – the first time the size distribution of small bodies has been measured in a planetary system other than our own.

Key facts: The team used NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) to determine the various sizes of the comets. The nuclei of the comets, or their solid, central portions, ranged between 1.8 and 8.6 miles (3 to 14 kilometers) across.

Younger exoplanets are better candidates when looking for other Earths: Some exoplanets found thus ...

"We know these radioactive elements are necessary to regulate climate, but we don't know how long these elements can do this, because they decay over time," said Dr. Cayman Unterborn, lead author of an Astrophysical Journal Letters paper about the research.

Studying exoplanets is challenging. Today's technology cannot measure the composition of an exoplanet's surface, much less that of its interior.

Spotted: a Tatooine-like exoplanet orbiting two stars

Like Tatooine – the home world of Anakin and Luke Skywalker – a rare exoplanet with its own binary sunset (but in our galaxy, the Milky Way) was spotted by astronomers earlier this year using a ground-based telescope.

We all know that the best films come in trilogies, like Star Wars and A Spacetime Trilogy with Jared Kaplan – a 2021 SCINEMA International Film Festival entry.
