How Many Dwarf Planets Are There? - WorldAtlas

The first dwarf planets discovered were often considered to be planets. Although Pluto is the most popular dwarf planet in our solar system, it was not the first to be discovered. The first dwarf planet discovered was Ceres, which was first observed in 1801.

Dwarf planets are small and dim, and so it comes as no surprise that they are difficult to detect . Thus, no dwarf planets were discovered after Ceres until the 1930s, when the astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto.

How the Rocky Planets Got Their Shapes | National Air and Space Museum

When studying rocky planets—Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars—you can see their history, literally. Their geological history is preserved on their surfaces. Their landscapes reveal the processes that shaped them: impacts, crustal movements, volcanic activity, and erosion.

Planets and moons across our solar system bear the scars of collisions. Impact craters form on their surfaces when another object, such as a dust particle, rock, asteroid, or comet smashes into them.

Atmospheric Gravitational Tides Of Earth-like Planets Orbiting Low-mass Stars - Astrobiology

Equatorial atmospheric temperature structure. Temperature (color contours) and isobars (black contours), averaged for 5◦S–5◦N, are shown as a function of longitude and altitude for a simulated Proxima b with a 1 bar, N2–dominated atmosphere.

Temperate terrestrial planets orbiting low-mass stars are subject to strong tidal forces. The effects of gravitational tides on the solid planet and that of atmospheric thermal tides have been studied, but the direct impact of gravitational tides on the atmosphere itself has so far been ignored.

Scientists discover two giant new planets - ISRAEL21c

A team of international scientists led by Israeli researchers has discovered two giant new planets in remote solar systems.

The two new planets are similar in size to the planet Jupiter and are so close to their suns that they can complete an orbit in less than four days.

Less Effective Hydrodynamic Escape Of H2-H2O Atmospheres On Terrestrial Planets Orbiting Pre-main ...

Atmospheric profiles when the XUV flux is 100 times the present. (a) Mean velocity for six choices of the basal H2O/H2 mole ratio. The dots represent the transonic points. The triangles indicate the exobase. The black line represents the local escape velocity.

Terrestrial planets currently in the habitable zones around M dwarfs likely experienced a long-term runaway greenhouse condition because of a slow decline in host-stellar luminosity in its pre-main sequence phase.

Rogue Planets? Or A Giant Alien Spaceship? | by Will Lockett | Predict | Jul, 2022 | Medium

For a while now, astronomers have known that rogue planets wander through the galaxy unbridled by any star. At first, they seemed like a mere peculiarity of the universe; a nice-to-know-about fact. But a recent paper has suggested that we should consider…
