The past couple of years has seen an unprecedented surge in the adoption of robots by a variety of sectors, including major employers like manufacturers and warehouse operators such as Amazon.
At the end of 2021, Global X forecasts growth in industrial robots from 16 billion to 37 billion over the next 10 years, noting the importance of 2022 as a major adoption tipping point.
Swarms of Mini Robots Could Dig the Tunnels of the Future | WIRED
But British startup hyperTunnel has other ideas. The firm proposes a future in which much smaller, roughly 3-meter-long robots shaped like half-cylinders zoom about underground via predrilled pipes.
"We're talking about thousands of them," says hyperTunnel's director of engineering, Patrick Lane-Nott. "Much like an ant colony or a termite colony works in swarms."
In the old Seattle Macy's building, Amazon plans to test robots. - Axios Seattle
Why it matters: The plan would bring more changes to a building that was once the centerpiece of Seattle's retail core — and hints at Amazon's plans to expand further into brick-and-mortar retail.
What's happening: Filings with the city indicate that Amazon plans to launch a pilot called "Project Lucy" below the former Macy's building at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street, per the Business Journal.
The Best Examples Of Human And Robot Collaboration
The future of work is not about humans being replaced by robots. Rather, it is about us learning to work alongside smart, automated technology that will augment our capabilities while allowing us to focus on skills that are uniquely humans.
A famous example of human and robot collaboration is Amazon's warehouse robots that work alongside staff in its fulfillment centers. These robots have one job – to bring items to human pickers so they can be packaged and labeled for dispatch.
Watch tiny electromechanical robots that are faster than cheetahs for their size
A team of researchers at Johannes Kepler University, in Austria, has developed a series of tiny, steerable electromechanical robots that can walk, run, jump and swim at high speeds for their size.
To make their robots, the researchers printed liquid metal coils onto different substrates that had different desirable characteristics, such as bendability.

Former SpaceX Engineers Are Launching a Startup Where Robots Make Pizzas in 45 Seconds
Who doesn't love hot, gooey, fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza? If there's a better food in existence, I for one don't know about it (though ice cream is a pretty close contender).
A Los Angeles-based startup called Stellar Pizza is hoping to make pizza consumption even easier for LA residents by bringing them fresher, faster, cheaper pies.
