By far the largest of all the planets in our solar system, Jupiter has already been big and bright in the night sky for months this year, but its rising hour has been inconveniently late for those of us who aren't owls.
Jupiter rises at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday, almost directly to the east, and spends most of the night crossing the southern sky — at a maximum elevation of about 44 degrees — before setting almost exactly 12 hours later.
Why is there no Planet B? (commentary)
Take Mars. It is half the size of Earth and receives 40% of the heat that we get from the Sun, so technically speaking, it is “Earth-sized” and “temperate”.
Any semi-reasonable plan to establish a long-term presence beyond Earth requires a planet to which we are fit. Earth was not always so friendly to humans as it is today. For around 90% of its 4.6 billion-year history, it had conditions completely incompatible with our survival.
Maria Bartuszová review – a world of misshapen planets and alien art forms | Sculpture | The ...
Tate Modern, London
The Prague-born artist, who made wildly experimental art under the nose of the communist authorities, began casting her weirdly entrancing sculptures from children's party balloons
Most of the art in Bartuszová's Tate exhibition is made from plaster, something she could sculpt cheaply and easily when she was a young mother working from home in the 1960s. Having to balance making art with looking after her young children gave her an idea.
Super-Earths are Bigger, More Common and More Habitable Than Earth Itself—And Astronomers are ...
Astronomers now routinely discover planets orbiting stars outside of the solar system – they're called exoplanets.
One planet is 30% larger than Earth and orbits its star in less than three days. The other is 70% larger than the Earth and might host a deep ocean. These two exoplanets are super-Earths – more massive than the Earth but smaller than ice giants like Uranus and Neptune.

Did you ever want to see an alien world? A planet orbiting a distant star, light years from the Sun? Well, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has just returned its first-ever picture of just that — a planet orbiting a distant star.
Most Extrasolar Earths Are Cold, Dry And Land-Dominated, Says New Research
NASA's Kepler mission confirmed the discovery of its first rocky planet, named Kepler-10b. Measuring ... [+] 1.4 times the size of Earth, it is the smallest planet ever discovered outside our solar system.
New computer models of more than a thousand potential terrestrial planets shockingly indicate that less than one percent would have the same land-ocean dichotomy as our own pale blue dot.
Nola Labs Gives Space Enthusiasts the Opportunity to Own a Planet - Digital Journal
As NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration Program identifies new planets in distant space, humans can now own their own piece of galactic beauty.
Nola Labs LLC, a private company formed in Delaware to distribute ‘out-of-this-world’ works-of-art, is launching a limited-edition collection named XOplanets .

When does Mercury in retrograde end? Meaning behind the astrological event and how long it lasts
Mercury is a particularly important planet movement in horoscope reading because in astrology, the planet is said to rule over travel, communication and technology.
Planets always orbit the sun anti-clockwise. The Mercury retrograde phenomenon happens because of differences in orbit between Earth and Mercury. Earth takes 365 days to orbit, whereas Mercury takes just 88 days.
James Webb Space Telescope's first pictures of Mars could reveal more about the atmosphere | ...
The JWST imagery also gave space agencies an opportunity to share Mars' near-infrared atmospheric composition using the telescope's onboard spectrograph array.
This is only the initial wave of pictures and data. It will take more observations to reveal more about Mars. However, the spectral info already hints at more information about the planet's materials.
