People saw aliens after UFO crashed in Brazil in 1996: doc

It sounds like science-fiction. On Jan. 13, 1996, the United States Air Force shoots down a UFO, which crashes six miles from a medium-sized town in southeastern Brazil.

Seven days later, two sisters aged 14 and 16, and a 21-year-old friend spot a tiny, frightened alien with big red eyes, crouching by a wall. They run screaming back to their mother.

Real or not, UFOs arrive once again in Wisconsin village

But this village that straddles the Dane and Green county line sure has gotten its kicks out of little green men and silver saucers over the past 35 years.

Under a cloudless, object-free sky that soaked Belleville in sunshine, UFO Day brought more than 2,000 people to West Main Street on Saturday for a nearly 40-unit parade that paid its respects to the unknown.

I spent Oct. 22-23 celebrating my birthday in Roswell and White Sands with both believers and nonbelievers. As "Ancient Alien" aficionados, my mom and I fall into the first camp, while my dad and husband balk at the idea of little green men.

Space news weekly recap: NASA's UFO team, Martian bacteria and more

For example, a NASA instrument in space was able to detect many methane "super-emitters" on our planet. Methane is a potent greenhouse gas but compared to carbon dioxide, which lingers in the atmosphere for decades, methane lasts only decades in the atmosphere.

NASA's Earth Surface Mineral Dust Investigation, or EMIT, was mainly designed to study airborne dust and its effect on climate change but it has proven useful to detect a cause of climate change–detecting large "super-emitters" of methane from around the world.

Many military UFO reports are just foreign spying or airborne trash: officials

WASHINGTON — Government officials believe that surveillance operations by foreign powers and weather balloons or other airborne clutter explain most recent incidents of unidentified aerial phenomenon — government-speak for UFOs — as well as many episodes in past years.

The sightings have puzzled the Pentagon and intelligence agencies for years, fueling theories about visiting space aliens and spying by a hostile nation using advanced technology. But government officials say many of the incidents have far more ordinary explanations.
