The Hubble Space Telescope caught an unexpected asteroid streaking across a field of distant galaxies.
In the image, released on Monday (Jan. 16) by the European Space Agency (ESA), the asteroid can be seen as a row of four thin consecutive lines captured in alternating shades of blue and orange spreading from the left upper corner toward the middle section of the image.
Hubble Spots Stealthy Asteroid Photobombing a Fuzzy Galaxy - CNET
UGC 7983 is a small galaxy located 30 million light-years away in Virgo. The European Space Agency describes it as a dwarf irregular galaxy. It's in good company. Many other galaxies are visible in the background. You can also spot bright stars.
"A minor asteroid, only a handful of kilometers across, can be seen streaking across the upper left-hand side of this image," ESA said. The space rock's trail is represented by four thin dashes of light.
Will an asteroid STRIKE Earth? Indian scientist reveals shocking truth | Tech News
Did you know that space debris as small as grains of sand or pebbles in their thousands hit the Earth's atmosphere every day? The atmosphere works as a shield, burning up these space rocks. But this is not the case every time.
However, this wasn't the only asteroid strike in history, which had a devastating effect on Earth. In fact, another asteroid event in recent recorded history happened in 1908, when a 60-metre wide asteroid exploded near the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Eastern Siberia, Russia.
NASA's Psyche Mission is Back on.
NASA's Psyche mission is back on track for launch and is now scheduled for a potential October 2023 launch date, according to an October 2022 statement from NASA.
"I appreciate the hard work of the independent review board and the JPL-led team toward mission success," Dr. Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington, said in the October 2022 statement.
How did Dimorphos Form? - Universe Today
The otherwise unremarkable double asteroid of Didymos and Dimorphos made headlines as the target of NASA’s successful Double Asteroid Redirect Test (DART) mission.
In this scenario long ago Didymos spun up far too quickly. It could have been from a glancing collision or just from too many gravitational interactions with neighbors. Once it spun up it began losing mass, which formed a ring surrounding it.
Wes Anderson's 'Asteroid City' and 'Henry Sugar' Will Feature Stop-Motion Animation Sequences ...
Anderson has already made two full stop-motion films: 2009's "The Fantastic Mr. Fox" and 2018's "Isle of Dogs." Stop-motion was also used for a specific sequence in "The Darjeeling Limited."
We can most likely surmise that, with a June release date, "Asteroid City" will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. We're not too sure about 'Henry Sugar' but its eyed fall launch could have it playing at Toronto/Telluride/Venice.
