Have We Already Been Visited by Aliens? | The New Yorker

On October 19, 2017, a Canadian astronomer named Robert Weryk was reviewing images captured by a telescope known as Pan- STARRS1 when he noticed something strange. The telescope is situated atop Haleakalā, a ten-thousand-foot volcanic peak on the island of Maui, and it scans the sky each night, recording the results with the world's highest-definition camera.

Weryk alerted colleagues, who began tracking the dot from other observatories. The more they looked, the more puzzling its behavior seemed. The object was small, with an area roughly that of a city block. As it tumbled through space, its brightness varied so much—by a factor of ten—that it had to have a very odd shape. Either it was long and skinny, like a cosmic cigar, or flat and round, like a celestial pizza.

Harvard physicist: ‘Serious possibility’ alien spacecraft visited solar system |

(NEXSTAR) – In a new interview, Harvard physicist Avi Loeb says there’s a “serious possibility” that an interstellar object that passed through Earth’ solar system could be an alien spacecraft.

In a new interview with Salon , Loeb defended his hypothesis, asserting that “perhaps ‘Oumuamua was artificial, definitely not made by us.”

“I would say, given everything we know, I would give a high likelihood that it could have been artificially made,” he said.

See the CIA’s trove of UFO-related intelligence documents | WTRF

(NEXSTAR) – From reports of flying saucers to mysterious bomb blasts, the CIA has opened its catalogue of intelligence on reports of unidentified flying objects to the public.

In one report from June of 1996, two Lithuanian police officers working near the border reported seeing “a spherical object hanging and ‘pulsing,’ alternately shrinking and expanding” around 12:30 a.m. that morning. They also described “a strange sound like an electric or electronic crackle.”

Former Israeli space security chief says extraterrestrials exist, and Trump knows about it

A former Israeli space security chief has sent eyebrows shooting heavenward by saying that earthlings have been in contact with extraterrestrials from a "galactic federation."

"The Unidentified Flying Objects have asked not to publish that they are here, humanity is not ready yet," Haim Eshed, former head of Israel's Defense Ministry's space directorate, told Israel's Yediot Aharonot newspaper. The interview in Hebrew ran on Friday, and gained traction after parts were published in English by the Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

This may worth something:

Here's how scientists protect Earth from extraterrestrial germs

Dr. Daniel H. Anderson, an aerospace technologist and test director in the Nonsterile Nitrogen Processing Laboratory in the Lunar Receiving Laboratory at the Manned Spacecraft Center looks at much-discussed Apollo 14 basketball-size rock through a microscope. The two moon-exploring crew men of Apollo 14 brought back 90-odd pounds of lunar sample material from their two periods of extravehicular activity on the lunar surface in the Fra Mauro area.

For years, concerns about planetary protection have focused on preventing Earth from littering the solar system—sterilizing spacecraft and keeping astronauts under strict quarantine protocols. But as space agencies around the world gear up to bring more samples back from destinations such as asteroids, the moon, and Mars, scientists are once more considering the opposite prospect: What if we bring extraterrestrial germs back to Earth?

Ceres' Blue-Cratered Surface May Be the Result of Impact-Induced Sublimation | Planetary News

In 2007, NASA launched the Dawn spacecraft to investigate the asteroid Vesta and the dwarf planet Ceres. Dawn, the first mission to orbit two extraterrestrial bodies, entered orbit around Ceres in 2015. Imaging and spectral analysis of Ceres' surface show that many regions have a distinctive "blue" color (negatively sloped visible spectra) and a material composition of ammoniated phyllosilicates. These regions are mainly associated with young, fresh craters.

Stefan Schröder from the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR, Germany) and colleagues carried out experiments simulating a mixture of water ice and phyllosilicate minerals that might be created by an impact on Ceres and investigated how that mixture then sublimated under Ceres-like conditions. After several days, the residue structure was analyzed and found to be highly porous and "foam like" with sub-micron-sized filaments of phyllosilicates.
