Venus is the brightest, most extreme planet in the Solar System - Big Think

If you've been getting up early and viewing the eastern skies before the Sun rises, you may have noticed that there's one point of light that outshines all the others not only around it, but across the entire sky.

The above photograph shows Venus next to Mars — a bright planet in its own right — as it appeared during conjunction on July 12, 2021.

Solar system for White Plains completed - Westfair Communications

C onstruction has been completed on what's described as the largest municipal solar energy setup in Westchester County. The system is spread over nine city-owned sites in White Plains. It is designed to produce 8,100 megawatt hours of electricity each year.

The system was built by Distributed Solar Development (DSD) based in Schenectady, which the city selected after having sent out a Request for Proposals (RFP) to about 100 solar contractors.

10 Facts About Mars - WorldAtlas

Mars is the second closest planet to Earth and is probably the most studied world in our solar system . In fact, we know more about the Martian surface than we do about the Earth's oceans . NASA has spent more time, money, and resources going to Mars than it has on any other planet.

Mars is known as the Red Planet, and the reason why the surface is red is due to the fact that its rocks and soil contain small amounts of iron that have rusted over time. Rather than being the Red Planet, perhaps a more appropriate name would be the Rusty Planet.

Energy storage 101: how energy storage works | Utility Dive

Energy storage is the linchpin of the clean energy transition. The more renewable energy on the grid, the better—but these resources only produce power when the sun is shining, or the wind is blowing. Energy storage can "firm up" renewable resources, maximizing their value to the grid .

Historically, power on the grid has flowed in one direction (from generation to transmission to distribution to customers) but with more and more customers producing their own power, i.e., solar panels at businesses or residences, power is now flowing in multiple directions.

New method to analyze minerals under terrestrial and Martian atmospheric conditions

At the same time as the change of matter occurs, an acoustic wave originates from the detonation of the mineral. The experts involved in this study have fused spectral information and that provided by the propagation of sound to obtain more reliable data .

In comparison with the results obtained with LIBS or the acoustic dataset separately, the results provided by the new system improves the information from 90% and 77% respectively to 92% for Earth atmospheric conditions, and from 85% and 81% to 89% for Mars.

Op-ed | No Borders in Space - SpaceNews

Despite existential human dependence on the Sun in so many ways, no proprietary claim by anyone on Earth can—or ever will— be established as to ownership of our nearest stellar neighbor.

The United States has been a leader in studying the Sun and understanding the physics of space weather. But to uncover all of the dangers and societal implications of solar storms is a massive undertaking.

Humanity's First-Ever Exoplanet Discovery Was an Unbelievable Fluke

In the early 1990s, planetary history was made. In 1992, two astronomers, Alexander Wolszczan and Dale Frail, published a paper in Nature announcing the discovery of the very first planets outside the Solar System.

These two extrasolar planets, or exoplanets, were immediately intriguing.
