What Planets Are Retrograde August 2022? The Answer Might Make You Nervous

The definition of "retrograde" means to reverse or go backward — but when it comes to the planets, they are actually always moving forward. During this cycle from Earth, however, it appears as if they're going backward, when in reality they're just changing speeds.

Every astrological planet retrogrades periodically, except for the sun and moon (since they're luminaries). The outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), in particular, spend about four to five months every year retrograde.

StarWatch: Planets strung out in a line - Austin Daily Herald | Austin Daily Herald

In the predawn sky, four planets—Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn—are still strung in that order from left to right. But now the line of planets stretches all the way across the sky.

Venus dazzles from low in the northeast. Mars and Jupiter begin the month well up in the southeast and south, respectively, with Saturn lower in the southwest. As August goes by, Jupiter and Saturn drift westward; at month's end, Saturn will be so far west that it sets before Venus appears.

Two-ton Gemini Planet Imager arrives at Notre Dame for upgrades | News | Notre Dame News | ...

A key to potentially finding habitable planets rests in Nieuwland Hall of Science at the University of Notre Dame, after an extended journey.

It's fair to say that Jeffrey Chilcote , assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy , who is heading up a project to revamp and upgrade the equipment, was anxious about the instrument's trip — but he was also excited to get started, because it has been 14 years since GPI was ...

The universe: Your essential guide to its breathtaking wonders | New Scientist

The surprises with exoplanets started in 1995 with 51 Pegasi b, the first planet to be discovered orbiting a main sequence star, the most common type of star in the galaxy, other than the sun.

We have since found over 1500 hot Jupiters, and the consensus is these planets have migrated in towards their star after forming in a more distant orbit. But while this is a large proportion of the 5000-odd exoplanets found so far, we shouldn’t overestimate how common they are.
