SpaceChain's Bitcoin wallet is now orbiting the Earth

The wallet has officially made its way to the International Space Station (ISS) and is now orbiting the Earth at five miles per second. It flew there on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as part of a commercial resupply mission.

This marks the first piece of blockchain hardware to be installed on the ISS. It will be installed on NanoRacks' commercial platform on board the station.

Upon activation, the platform will demonstrate the receipt, authorisation, and retransmission of transactions.

Bad Astronomy | So, about that 'too massive' black hole… yeah, not so much.

Last week, I wrote about what looked like a pretty important astronomical discovery : A black hole with a mass of 70 times that of the Sun.

This story was a big deal because we don't know of any easy way to get a black hole with a mass like that. This is what's called a stellar mass black hole , one with up to a few dozen times the mass of the Sun most likely formed when a massive star goes supernova . While the outer layers of the star explode outward, the core of the star collapses, becoming a black hole.

Partisans to turn Canadian town into "city of the future" The Orbit

Architecture studio Partisans has unveiled plans to transform a Canadian town into a smart community , combining fibre optics, autonomous vehicles and drone ports within a rural setting.

The Toronto firm has developed the proposal for Innisfil, Canada , a primarily agrarian and residential town 60 kilometres north of Toronto.

Called The Orbit, the proposal aims to develop it into "the city of the future" with a host of new technologies, while also maintaining the existing agriculture and lush setting.

ESA wants to grab a chunk of space debris and pull it out of orbit in 2025 - MIT Technology Review

The European Space Agency has announced a new mission in 2025 to test out technology to remove orbital debris. Called ClearSpace-1, it will be the first mission tasked with removing an actual piece of abandoned space junk from orbit.

What is it? The new mission is the brainchild of the Swiss startup ClearSpace, which has designed a space trash collector that uses four robotic legs to capture the debris. It can then drag it down into a deorbiting maneuver so it can safely burn up in the atmosphere.
