The Oort cloud represents the very edges of our solar system. The thinly dispersed collection of icy material starts roughly 200 times farther away from the sun than Pluto and stretches halfway to our sun's nearest starry neighbor, Alpha Centauri.
"For the foreseeable future, the bodies in the Oort cloud are too far away to be directly imaged," says a spokesperson from NASA. "They are small, faint, and moving slowly."

Solar sails have been receiving a lot of attention lately. In part that is due to a series of high profile missions that have successfully proven the concept.
The literal driving force behind some solar sail projects are lasers. These concentrated beams of light are perfect to provide a pushing force against a solar sail. However, they are also useful as weapons if scaled up too much, vaporizing anything in its path.

It is no small task to build a moon. First, a planet has to be massive enough to pull in passing space detritus — some dust here, some gas there, maybe a few asteroids — and eventually let them congeal on their own into a celestial body.
Among astronomers, that was the operative theory, at least, as to how moons formed. But notably, until recently, scientists had never actually seen a moon-forming region (also known as a circumplanetary disk) anywhere outside of our solar system.

July 23 (UPI) -- Marsquake data collected by NASA's InSight lander has allowed planetary scientists to more accurately characterize Mars' deep interior, as well as offered clues to the Red Planet's origins.
Using data from 733 distinct marsquakes recorded by SEIS, scientists have been able to estimate the size and composition of the Red Planet's inner structures.

A Jupiter-like planet outside our solar system has astronomers watching in anticipation. For the first time, astronomers were able to observe a “disc” around the planet, a large circular mass that can potentially form moons.
The exoplanet, officially called the PDS 70c, is one of two massive planets that look similar to Jupiter, located approximately 400 light-years away from Earth.
