The asteroid is trapped in the inner solar system and crosses Earth’s orbit similarly to Asteroid 1862 Apollo.
NASA said: “Some asteroids and comets follow orbital paths that take them much closer to the Sun and therefore Earth – than usual.
“If a comet or asteroids approach brings it to within 1.3 astronomical units of the Sun, we call it a Near-Earth Object.”

The Japan Space Agency (JAXA)'s Hayabusa 2 has been used to carry out various missions to increase our understanding of the spinning top-shaped, Near-Earth asteroid Ryugu. Since arriving in June 2018, the unmanned spacecraft has taken samples and a great number of images of the asteroid. It is hoped that these can reveal more about Ryugu's formation and history.

WASHINGTON — A group of planetary defense advocates is asking European governments to fund a mission to a near Earth asteroid, three years after a similar mission failed to win approval.
At a press conference in Berlin Nov. 15, backers of the proposed Hera mission said more than 1,200 scientists and other supporters had signed a letter calling on European Space Agency member states to fund the mission at their ministerial meeting later this month in Spain.

Now named Paulsánchez, the binary system is a pair of asteroids orbiting each other in the asteroid belt.
Sánchez, a senior research associate at the Colorado Center for Astrodynamics Research within the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at CU Boulder, did not have a background in astrodynamics before coming to the university 10 years ago. But he combined his expertise in granular dynamics and quantum chemistry to dive into asteroid science.

High-resolution scans of a 4.6 billion- year-old meteorite have revealed 'fossilised ice', showing for the first time direct evidence that when early asteroids formed they incorporated frozen water into their matrix.
Researchers from London's Natural History Museum and several Japanese institutes including Tohoku University have discovered the fossil ice in a meteorite weighing just 82 grams that slammed into Algeria in 1990. Officially called Acfer 094, this meteorite was a piece of a larger asteroid that formed during the early days of the Solar System.
