Unknown 'mini Moon' in Outer Solar System Is One of The Smallest Ever Found : ScienceAlert

If the rocky satellite, which is just a little wider than the width of Manhattan, is confirmed to be a proper moon, it would be one of the smallest moons ever spotted.

The tiny satellite was discovered by scientists working on NASA's Lucy mission , which is sending a space probe to study some of the Trojan asteroids , two massive groups of space rocks that are located on each side of Jupiter on its orbit around the Sun .

Comet impacts formed continents when Solar System entered arms of Milky Way -- ScienceDaily

New Curtin research has found evidence that Earth's early continents resulted from being hit by comets as our Solar System passed into and out of the spiral arms of the Milky Way Galaxy, turning traditional thinking about our planet's formation on its head.

The new research, published in Geology , challenges the existing theory that Earth's crust was solely formed by processes inside our planet, casting a new light on the formative history of Earth and our place in the cosmos.

Off-grid Solar System in New South Wales

The weather in New South Wales is ideal for solar power systems. The state has over 2,500 hours of sunshine per year, making New South Wales one of the best areas for solar energy.

Off-grid systems are entirely self-sufficient and don't rely on the power distribution grid. These systems will require battery banks to store the energy your solar panels generate so that your home or business can continue to operate outside of daylight hours.

Bad Astronomy | Ancient meteorites give clues to what caused the birth of our solar system | SYFY ...

We know that the solar system formed from a collapsing cloud of cold gas and dust, called the protosolar molecular cloud , what was likely part of a much larger nebula.

We still have lots of questions about the process, but two big nagging questions remain: What started our collapse, and how long did it take?

Voyager 1 marks 10 years in interstellar space | Space

On Aug. 25, 2012, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft was 11 billion miles (18 billion kilometers) from the sun and scientists determined that the venerable spacecraft had crossed the boundary between the sun's influence and the interstellar medium.

Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 were primarily designed to explore Jupiter and Saturn. Voyager 2 also visited Uranus and Neptune, while Voyager 1 instead prioritized Saturn's giant moon Titan, which sent it on a new trajectory to the edge of the solar system .

Portable Solar Energy Systems for Home & On the Go - Earth911

Solar panels aren't just found on rooftops and solar farms anymore — there are now numerous portable solar modules on the market for camping , RVs, and emergency preparedness.

Portable solar systems are ideal when it is difficult or impossible to access the power grid. They can fulfill a similar purpose to a backup generator, but without consuming fossil fuels or making noise.

Uranus to begin reversing path across the night sky on Wednesday - UPI.com

Aug. 24 (UPI) -- As part of a cosmic phenomenon called retrograde motion, Uranus -- the second-to-last planet in our solar system -- will reverse its eastward course on Wednesday and begin moving west in the sky for a few months.

Retrograde motion occurs as the Earth moves around the sun and the stellar views at night change little by little. The orbit, in turn, makes objects like planets in our solar system move horizontally across the sky throughout the year. Advertisement
