Asteroid UK6 is an Amor-type space rock predicted to come astronomically close to our home planet tomorrow.

NEOs are all comets and asteroids orbiting the Sun on paths that bring them close to Earth over time.
The European Space Agency (ESA) said: “NEOs could potentially hit our planet and, depending on their size, produce considerable damage.
“While the chance of a large object hitting Earth is very small, it would produce a great deal of destruction.

Asteroid alert: Monster rock bigger than Shard to ROAR by Earth - NASA warning | Science | News |
For reference, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest jet ever built, could not even reach New York from London in an hour.
The asteroid will come closest to Earth on Boxing Day when the space rock will come within 0.049au (astronomical units) of our planet.
One AU is the distance between the Earth and the Sun (149,598,000 km) so 2000 CH59 will be 7,330,295 kilometres away.
Although this seems like a sizeable distance, it is close enough for NASA to describe it as “potentially hazardous”.
Hygiea: Asteroid or Planet? | SETI Institute
Two billion years ago, one world was destroyed, but a new one was born. Hygiea, the 4th largest asteroid in the main-belt, is the result of this catastrophic disruption of an asteroid.
A team of researchers, including SETI Institute astronomer Franck Marchis , have successfully imaged Hygeia for the first time. Using an innovative adaptive optics at the ESO VLT (European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope), located in the Atacama Desert in Chile, the image revealed that this distant main-belt asteroid is a round world. Its spherical shape is probably the product of the way the asteroid formed.
NASA's mission to an asteroid could uncover the secrets of planet formation - MarketWatch
NASA is preparing to launch a mission to 16 Psyche, an asteroid made mostly of metal. The results of the project could lead to a better understanding of Earth's formation.
About 90% of the asteroid is iron and nickel, although some speculate that there is enough gold and platinum to shake up the global economy if those metals could be brought back to Earth.
The asteroid is a unique astronomical object: It's one of the 10 most massive bodies in the asteroid belt. It's 226 kilometers (140 miles) in diameter, and scientists believe that 16 Psyche is the exposed planetary core of a small world that got hit so hard and so many times that its mantle got stripped away, leaving the core exposed. (The mantle lies between the core and the crust.)

Asteroid news: Astronomer spots a potentially hazardous rock flying towards Earth | Science |
Dr Masi told Express.co.uk: “Last night I could imagine the potentially hazardous asteroid 1998 HL1 on its way to its safe close encounter with us, next October 25.”
He added: “This rocks is quite large and it will be visible with typical amateur telescopes.”

An object at the upper end of NASA’s scale, the space agency said, is large enough to cause global damage upon impact.
NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) keep a watchful eye on asteroids this big approaching the planet.

Asteroid SHOCK: Why a 'city destroying asteroid' may still mean complete human
Self-styled research scientist Michael Horn argued that sci-fi disaster films have helped create the narrative that a city-destroying asteroid is only an issue for the city in question. Mr Horn, who says Billy Meier, the Ufoglist he represents has spoken to aliens, explained that there would be many more ramifications beyond the initial impact. A massive impact from an asteroid could result in Earthquakes, tsunamis and drastic changes in the climate that would have its own knock-on effects.
NASA Lucy Mission | Jupiter Trojan Asteroids
There are five Trojans, four of which are orbiting ahead of or behind the biggest planet in the solar system. One of them lies within the solar system's main asteroid belt.
It's an ambitious tour. The recent design review, undertaken by NASA and third-party external groups, evaluated the Lucy craft from top to bottom. Spacecraft and instrument payload, flight hardware and software, systems engineering, mission assurance, and ground systems all received a thorough examination. With the craft's design phase over, engineers can now begin building Lucy and its accompanying instruments.
