Black holes are one of the most powerful forces in the universe, swallowing up everything in their wake. A small black hole is considered to have a mass at least six times that of the Sun - but even one just 1mm in size could still wreak havoc, an expert has said. Hypothetically, if one of that size were to form on Earth, its immense gravitational pull could still tear the planet apart.
Hossam Aly, Ph.D Astrophysics, University of Leicester, said a 1mm black hole would still have a mass of 10 percent that of Earth.

Galaxy clusters typically consist of thousands of galaxies held together by strong gravitational forces, with the most powerful black holes ever discovered lying at their centres. In the usual galaxy clusters observed the black holes at their centres were so strong they actually prevented the creation of stars, but the “phoenix cluster” just discovered boasts some key differences that have shocked scientists.
If stronger, the black hole at its centre would prevent this cooling and therefore prevent any creation of stars, but these unique circumstances may provide scientists with some answers to some of the greatest questions ever put to them.

The galactic cluster sits approximately 5.8 billion light-years from Earth and is one of the fist clusters where young stars are being born close to the core.
Supermassive black holes typically stifle the rate at which stars are born but the Phoenix Cluster stands out from similar galactic bodies.
NASA said: “For decades, astronomers have looked for galaxy clusters containing rich nurseries of stars in their central galaxies.
